Licensing Policies
Academic Classification
Only degree-granting institutions may be classifed as "academic." Academic prices are substantially discounted, so no exceptions will be made.
Single-User Licenses
Single-user licenses are limited to use by a single researcher on a single PC class computer (Windows, Linux, or Macintosh).
All single-user licenses are perpetual, and include 30 days of free maintenance from the date of installation. After that time, the user may elect to purchase additional maintenance; however, all maintenance is optional for single-user licenses. Note that when maintenance is active, any major updates to the software are free.
Multiple-User Licenses
Multiple-user licenses are limited to a single PC class computer (Windows, Linux, or Macintosh) that is being shared by up to 3 people who will be using the software.
All multiple-user licenses include free maintenance for the initial term of the license. Multiple-user licenses are sold on a renewable basis, and include all major and minor updates and bug fixes, as well as priority technical and administrative support. After the first year, annual renewal of maintenance is required for multiple-user licenses to remain active. Note that when maintenance is active, any major updates to the software are provided at no additional cost.
Site Licenses
All site licenses include free maintenance for the initial term of the license. Site licenses are available for all license categories, and allow unlimited installation and use of the software. Such licenses offer significant savings to institutions and organizations planning to use the software in a variety of contexts, or who currently employ people at a number of different locations. Please contact us for details.
We currently offer two types of site license:
- PC class site licenses (Windows, Linux, and Macintosh)
- Multiple platform site licenses (All PC and non-PC platforms)
If you are currently working at or attending a degree-granting institution, you can find additional details about our academic site licensing program here.
Workstation Licenses
All workstation licenses include free maintenance for the initial term of the license. Similar to site licenses, these licenses are for use by researchers working only on non-PC class systems with multiple users and accounts, such as Unix workstations and other shared computational resources. Annual maintenance is required for workstation licenses to remain active. Note that when maintenance is active, any major updates to the software are provided at no additional cost.
Perpetual Licenses
Non-expiring (or perpetual) licenses are available for all categories. A perpetual license means that the software license will not expire and that the original version of the software purchased will continue to run indefinitely. However, major updates and other support services will only be provided as long as maintenance is paid current. Updates may also be purchased separately as they are released.
Note that all annually renewable licenses will expire at the end of the license term (usually one year). Unless maintenance is kept active, the software will cease to function at this time.
Government Licenses
Special discounts on our products are available to sites that are agencies of the United States Government. Please contact Semichem directly for details.
