Conventions Used in This Manual

Constant width bold is used for:

  • User input.

  • Filenames and pathnames.

Constant width highlighted is used for:

  • Anything that might appear on screen, including contents of files and program output.

Constant width italic is used for:

  • Replaceable elements in keyword arguments.

Constant width bold italic is used for:

  • Replaceable elements in filenames and pathnames.

Constant width bold gray is used for:

  • Environment variables.

Bold text is used for:

  • Commands and program names.

Italic text is used for:

  • Signifying emphasis in body text.

  • New terms when they are defined.

This icon indicates a note of importance.
